Need to Fix

Last update: Sept. 25, 2007
Incorporated Michelle's and Dave Baxter's lists

Super High Priority

1. GRATING

- Rework Grating mount so that we can get the spectrum centered on the CCD, and we have more adjustability when the platform is mounted.

DONE 2. GUIDE CAMERA

DONE - Get the guide camera aligned with the slit plates so we can acquire objects

DONE - modify the guide camera mount so it's easier to install and remove

3. SHUTTER

- Replace the solenoid with an electronic shutter. Ordered 9/5, due in 4 weeks.
- obtain and test shutter electronics

4. BAFFLES

- Remake the black rotator rings with baffles
- Fill in arc of black rotator rings
- Baffle the comp lamp box better; eliminate light leaks
- Baffle cone above spectrograph entrance; chimney
- Baffle around the dewar

High Priority

1. SLIT PLATES

- Plug the holes in such a way that we can still see the reflective part
- Rework the slit insertion scheme

2. COMPARISON SWING MIRROR

- make the "in" limit repeatable, and a hard limit/switch so we always illuminate the slit the same way
- rework design to make it more reliable
- worry about potential CTE mismatch with space frame

3. Enable off-axis WFS (software?)

4. Tent in the pit.

-- oil mist filter?

5. Anodize front ring of the dewar. Clean dewar window.

6. Blacken screws and other parts that are not black: anodize shims, etc.

7. Alignment frame

- expand it so it's easier to work on the spectrograph
- reinforce with X in direction perpendicular to optical axis.

8. Manufacture and install permanent spectrograph covers.

9. Re-do Th-ar power connectors with 600 watt approved connectors.

10. Cal box mounting

- permanent shims
- put an electronic buffer plate permanently on bottom for isolation with dewar
- fine-tune cal box focus

11. Reduce data

- look at Vega data

- ID Th-Ar lines
- UV LEDs
- analyze and post results of focus run and flexture tests

12. Make detailed report for MMTO & Peter

Medium Priority

1. Ruby Gui/Spectrograph control electronics

- Make it reliably come up reading steps and limits.
- Limit indicators are flakey

2. L1 focus
- Make hard limits so that we can reliably and repeatedly count steps

3. Install Grating Motor and get it to work.

4. Triplet
- check drips
- top off the oil and rework the spigot system
- figure out how to drain oil if necessary.

5. Counterweights
- Rework design, as per JT's suggestions
- Replace turnbuckles for counterweights, or eliminate them
- Allow dewar to be removed when counterweights are mounted.
- Figure out if we still need the counterweight cart.
- if we still need the cart, retool it so the CG is over the cart with the counterweights themselves mounted.
- if we still need the cart get a different release valve to allow slow lowering. Check with manufacturer about possible oil fill.

6. Spectrograph Cart
- Move the two casters at the end inwards a few inches so we are not so close to the edge of the instrument lift

7. Work on electronic isolation of CCD dewar

8. User's manual, technical manual, proceedure s, checklists

9. Work on pipeline

10. Modify grating cover to make it easier to install/remove

-better holes/guide pins

-remake out of lighter material

-padding on corner of prism
-get head lamp so you can see what you're doing.

Low Priority

1. PZTs

- remake the bracket for the electronics so it doesn't have to be removed to lower the spectrograph to the cart.
- test control of PZTs
- figure out how to run PZTs to get desired motion on the CCD

2. Mount balance of slits for full complement.

2. Spectrograph Cart

- mount two trailer hitches
- ream out holes that need reaming.

3. Get a master copy of the drawings

- many missing drawings
- get master hardcopy, copy on sitescape, and copy on web site

4. Hook up temptrax temperature sensors and get the software going

5. Write user interface for spectrograph control

- allow ICE to query state of spectrograph and put information in headers

temptrax readings
L1 focus
grating position, pzt's

- in/out buttons for comp mirror

- put rarely used buttons onone window, lamp switches separate

6. Work on Cable drape (after covers are finished)

7. Get dry air hose of the right length

8. Do we need the turnbuckles on the grating end of the spectrograph?

9. Indicator light if we lose dry air purge to dewar? --> asked MMTO

10. Dry air purge to optics?

11. Put on/off switch on outside of spectrograph electronics box

12. Put switches on black ccd electronics box to reset guider and ccd camera separately?

13. Heat vent for Electronics Box

14. Heat vent for CCD box
